Gemini statistics come with a catch: the headline numbers count different things. Google said on August 11, 2026 that the Gemini app passed 1 billion monthly users, up from 950 million monthly active users on its Q2 2026 call. Growth is still rising, and monthly additions have been uneven rather than steadily slowing.

Every figure in these Google Gemini statistics carries its unit, its date and a link to the body that produced it. If you need one Gemini number you can defend in an article or a deck, start here.

Last verified: October 1, 2026.

Here are the key figures, each one safe to copy on its own:

- The Gemini app has surpassed 1 billion monthly users, Google said on August 11, 2026.
- The Gemini app had 950 million monthly active users and daily active users tripled over the prior year, according to [Alphabet's Q2 2026 call on July 22, 2026](https://blog.google/company-news/inside-google/message-ceo/alphabet-earnings-q2-2026/).
- Monthly active users grew from 450 million (July 23, 2025) to 950 million (July 22, 2026), or 2.1 times.
- Monthly active users added about 42 million a month on average between Google I/O 2025 and I/O 2026, in windows ranging from about 24 to 62 million with no consistent direction.
- Google's model APIs process about 22 billion tokens per minute on the Q2 2026 call, up from 7 billion on the Q3 2025 call.
- Google processes over 3.2 quadrillion tokens a month across its surfaces, [it said at I/O on May 19, 2026](https://blog.google/innovation-and-ai/sundar-pichai-io-2026/), up from roughly 480 trillion a year earlier.
- [Statcounter](https://gs.statcounter.com/ai-chatbot-market-share) shows Gemini at 7.04% of AI chatbot traffic in May 2026, while [Similarweb](https://aisearch.similarweb.com/blog/gen-ai-stats/) shows 27-28% of generative AI web visits the same month.
- 24% of US adults and 23% of US teens say they have ever used Gemini, according to the Pew Research Center (2026 and 2025).
- Nearly 90% of the Fortune 100 use Gemini Enterprise, per Alphabet's Q2 2026 call.
- Alphabet reports no Gemini revenue line: its Q2 2026 release splits revenue into Search & other, YouTube ads, Network, subscriptions, platforms, and devices, and Cloud (July 22, 2026).

## Gemini statistics: how many people use the Gemini app?

The Gemini app surpassed 1 billion monthly users, Google said on August 11, 2026, up from 950 million monthly active users on its July 22, 2026 call.

Gemini monthly active users is the wording on earnings calls and in keynotes, while Google's own announcement says "monthly users" in its body. Quote whichever wording your source used. The table puts all eight disclosures on one line, each with its call date:

::dataset{key="gemini-mau-timeline" name="Gemini app monthly active users by Google disclosure, March 2025 to August 2026"}

| Date | Monthly users | Where stated |
|---|---|---|
| Mar 2025 | 350 million (reported, scope unclear) | [Antitrust-trial slide](https://techcrunch.com/2025/04/23/google-gemini-has-350m-monthly-users-reveals-court-hearing/) |
| May 2025 | 400 million | [I/O 2025, restated at I/O 2026](https://blog.google/innovation-and-ai/sundar-pichai-io-2026/) |
| Jul 23, 2025 | more than 450 million | [Q2 2025 call](https://blog.google/company-news/inside-google/message-ceo/alphabet-earnings-q2-2025/) |
| Oct 29, 2025 | over 650 million | [Q3 2025 call](https://blog.google/company-news/inside-google/message-ceo/alphabet-earnings-q3-2025/) |
| Feb 4, 2026 | over 750 million | [Q4 2025 call](https://blog.google/company-news/inside-google/message-ceo/alphabet-earnings-q4-2025/) |
| May 19, 2026 | surpassed 900 million | I/O 2026 keynote |
| Jul 22, 2026 | 950 million | Q2 2026 call |
| Aug 11, 2026 | surpassed 1 billion | Google's 1 billion post |

The 350 million row is a slide from Google's antitrust case, relayed by TechCrunch on April 23, 2025. 9to5Google noted it is unclear whether Gemini inside Workspace apps and Gmail is counted, so treat it as a rough first point. The Q1 2026 call gave no app figure at all.

One more correction: 450 million was announced on July 23, 2025. Tables that date it to early 2025 are wrong.

::figure{src="/blog/figures/gemini-statistics-1.svg" alt="Gemini statistics line chart of app monthly users rising from 350 million in March 2025 to 950 million in July 2026, using Google's own statements." caption="Gemini app monthly users rose from 350 million in March 2025 to 950 million in July 2026 before passing 1 billion, by Google's statements." width="720" height="358"}

Between the July 2025 and July 2026 calls, monthly active users grew 111%, which is 2.1 times (950 million divided by 450 million). The two companies report different units, so the Gemini versus ChatGPT user comparison lives on the chatgpt statistics page.

### Net adds per month: how fast the Gemini app adds users

Net adds per month moved between about 24 and 62 million across four windows, with an average of about 42 million a month from I/O 2025 to I/O 2026.

Mind the rounding if you quote these. Alphabet's figures are rounded floors, so a 50 million rounding error shifts each three-month window by about 16 million and the two-month window by about 24 million.

::dataset{key="gemini-net-adds-windows" name="Gemini app net monthly active user additions per month between Alphabet disclosures, 2025 to 2026"}

| Window | MAU start to end (millions) | Net adds per month (millions) |
|---|---|---|
| Jul 23 to Oct 29, 2025 | 450 to 650 | about 62 |
| Oct 29, 2025 to Feb 4, 2026 | 650 to 750 | about 31 |
| Feb 4 to May 19, 2026 | 750 to 900 | about 44 |
| May 19 to Jul 22, 2026 | 900 to 950 | about 24 |
| I/O 2025 to I/O 2026 average | 400 to 900 | about 42 |

The formula is net adds = (MAU end minus MAU start) divided by the months between the two call dates, counting days over an average month. For the first window, 650 minus 450 million over a little more than three months gives about 62 million a month.

::figure{src="/blog/figures/gemini-statistics-3.svg" alt="Bar chart of Gemini app net user additions per month by disclosure window: about 62, 31, 44 and 24 million, with a one-year average of about 42 million." caption="Gemini's net adds per month moved between about 24 and 62 million across 2025 and 2026 windows, averaging about 42 million." width="720" height="302"}

Don't read a trend into any two windows. The last one is the lowest, but it sits inside the rounding range of the one before it. We also skip the three weeks between July 22 and August 11, 2026: at this rounding, a window that short resolves nothing.

## Is Gemini struggling? What the growth data shows

Gemini is not struggling: its monthly active users rose about 2.1 times in a year and daily active users tripled.

Is Gemini struggling in the sense of slowing? The net adds above say the additions are uneven, with no consistent direction. They are new users per month, so a smaller number in one window still means a larger total.

Engagement tells the stronger story. Daily active users tripled while monthly users rose 2.1 times, so the daily-to-monthly ratio rose about 42% (tripling divided by 2.1 times, with "tripled" itself a rounded word). One reference point: in March 2025 the reported ratio was about 10% (35 million daily over 350 million monthly, scope unclear).

Use per person rose faster still. Daily requests grew over 7 times from I/O 2025 to I/O 2026, while monthly users grew from 400 million to 900 million, so requests per active user rose about 3.1 times (7 divided by the user growth). Treat that as a floor-ish estimate, since "over seven times" is a floor.

So the data answer is no: users up, daily use up, deeper use per person. The only counterpoint comes from the mobile data in the next section.

## Gemini market share: why Statcounter and Similarweb disagree

Gemini market share for May 2026 is 7.04% by Statcounter and 27-28% by Similarweb, because the two count different things.

Similarweb counts visits to chatbot sites in its worldwide panel, at the domain level, so API and embedded assistants are excluded. Statcounter's FAQ describes tracking code on more than 1 million sites and documents page views referred for its search and social series only. It publishes no separate chatbot method, so call its figure a referral-style count and quote the metric name.

::dataset{key="gemini-share-by-method" name="Gemini share of AI chatbot traffic by source and month, 2025 to 2026"}

| Source | Month | Gemini share | What is counted |
|---|---|---|---|
| Statcounter | May 2025 | 1.95% | AI chatbot series, worldwide, all platforms |
| Statcounter | Oct 2025 | 3.02% | same series |
| Statcounter | Jan 2026 | 7.2% | same series |
| Statcounter | May 2026 | 7.04% | same series |
| Statcounter | Sep 2026 | 10.91% (provisional) | same series |
| Similarweb | June 2025 | under 9% | share of generative AI website visits |
| Similarweb | May 2026 | 27-28% | share of generative AI website visits |

Both series rise. Similarweb's share grew about 3 times from June 2025 to May 2026 (27 / 9, a minimum because the start is "under 9%"). Statcounter's grew 5.6 times from May 2025 to September 2026 (10.91 / 1.95), but Statcounter revises data for 45 days after publication, so the September figure and that multiple are provisional.

In the same month, May 2026, the two sit 3.8 to 4.0 times apart (27 / 7.04 and 28 / 7.04). That gap compares shares of different sets, so it is no measurement error. The two series also measure different sets of sites, so ChatGPT's share differs between them too. Similarweb's January 2026 reading for Gemini was about 21%, against 7.2% from Statcounter.

::figure{src="/blog/figures/gemini-statistics-2.svg" alt="Dot-range chart comparing Gemini's May 2026 share of AI chatbot traffic by Statcounter at 7.04% and Similarweb at 27 to 28 percent." caption="By Statcounter's and Similarweb's counts, Gemini's May 2026 share is 7.04% and 27-28%, because they count different things." width="720" height="227"}

Similarweb adds a counterpoint: on US iOS and Android, Gemini grew the slowest of the challengers from June 2025 to May 2026 on mobile, even as it won web share. If you're sizing Gemini as a channel, that matters more than the web number. Where Gemini sits among the [AI search engines](https://missiongrowth.io/blog/ai-search-engines) depends on which surface you measure.

Which one to cite:

- **Chatbot website attention:** use Similarweb, with the phrase "share of visits".
- **Referral-style traffic from chatbots:** use Statcounter, with its metric name and a note that it documents no chatbot method.
- **How many people use Gemini:** use neither. Users belong to the first section.

For classic search engine shares, the search engine market share page owns that comparison.

## Gemini usage statistics: who uses it and how

Gemini usage statistics from Pew: 24% of US adults and 23% of US teens say they have ever used Gemini.

Among chatbot users, that is about 49% of adults and 36% of teens. Those shares are our derivation: 24 / 49 for adults and 23 / 64 for teens. Pew Research Center asked about ever use, so none of these are monthly active figures.

::dataset{key="gemini-adoption-pew" name="Share of US adults and teens who have ever used Gemini, Pew Research Center, 2025 and 2026"}

| Population | Measure | Survey | Percent |
|---|---|---|---|
| US adults | Ever use an AI chatbot | [5,119 adults, Feb 17-23, 2026](https://www.pewresearch.org/internet/2026/06/17/americans-and-ai-2026-chatbots-smart-devices-and-views-on-impact/) | 49% |
| US adults | Ever use Gemini | same survey | 24% |
| US adults | Gemini users as share of chatbot users | derived | 49% |
| US teens | Ever use an AI chatbot | [1,458 teens aged 13 to 17, Sept 25 to Oct 9, 2025](https://www.pewresearch.org/internet/2025/12/09/teens-social-media-and-ai-chatbots-2025/) | 64% |
| US teens | Ever use Gemini | same survey | 23% |
| US teens | Gemini users as share of chatbot users | derived | 36% |

Gemini is wide among US adults, but "ever used" is a long way from active. Teens use chatbots more overall (64% against 49%), yet a smaller slice of them picked Gemini.

Google's own August 11, 2026 post adds usage facts for the app:

- **Voice:** 63% of users now talk directly to Gemini.
- **School:** 38% of school requests include an attachment.
- **Images:** Gemini generates 150 million+ images every day.
- **iOS:** Google counts 100 million+ active users on Apple's platform.
- **Android:** Gemini can take actions inside 40+ popular Android apps.

Gemini statistics by country are the gap. Google's earnings remarks, I/O keynote and 1 billion post contain no country split. Third-party panel splits circulate and disagree with each other on the US share, so we don't print one.

## Gemini token volume and developer statistics

Google's model APIs process about 22 billion tokens per minute (Q2 2026 call), and Google processes over 3.2 quadrillion tokens a month across its surfaces (I/O, May 19, 2026).

Those are different units. The per-minute figure is a rate for model API processing, and the monthly figure covers all surfaces.

::dataset{key="gemini-api-tokens-per-minute" name="Tokens per minute processed through Google's model APIs, Q3 2025 to Q2 2026"}

| Disclosure | Tokens per minute |
|---|---|
| Q3 2025 call (Oct 29, 2025) | 7 billion |
| Q4 2025 call (Feb 4, 2026) | over 10 billion |
| Q1 2026 call (Apr 29, 2026) | more than 16 billion |
| I/O 2026 (May 19, 2026) | roughly 19 billion |
| Q2 2026 call (Jul 22, 2026) | approximately 22 billion |

Monthly tokens across all surfaces: 480 trillion at I/O 2025, 980 trillion announced in July 2025, over 1.3 quadrillion on the Q3 2025 call and over 3.2 quadrillion at I/O 2026.

Can you turn API tokens per minute into a share of that total? Roughly, yes. Multiply the per-minute rate by the minutes in a month: 7 billion becomes about 302 trillion, against 1.3 quadrillion in the same call, or about 23%.

At I/O 2026, 19 billion becomes about 821 trillion against 3.2 quadrillion, or about 26%. So direct API traffic is roughly a quarter of the monthly total on this basis.

Treat that as an approximation. The per-minute numbers are exit rates, and the wording shifts: "direct API use by our customers" in the Q3 2025 to Q1 2026 calls, "our model APIs" at I/O and in the Q2 2026 call. No source says whether the monthly total includes those tokens, so we make no claim about what the rest is.

On the developer side, over 8.5 million developers were building with Google's models monthly at I/O 2026, and more than 9 million on the Q2 2026 call.

## Gemini revenue and enterprise statistics

Alphabet reports no Gemini revenue line: its Q2 2026 release breaks revenue into Search & other, YouTube ads, Network, subscriptions, platforms, and devices, and Cloud.

The release describes subscriptions, platforms, and devices as consumer products such as YouTube TV, YouTube Music and Premium, NFL Sunday Ticket and Google One, plus apps, in-app purchases and devices. Gemini is not named. Any "Gemini revenue" figure you see is an outside estimate, and no source says where Gemini revenue is booked.

What exists is partial:

- **Subscriptions:** 350 million paid subscriptions across Google on the Q1 2026 call, with the strongest quarter ever for consumer AI plans, "primarily driven by adoption of the Gemini app" (no number given).
- **Gemini Enterprise seats:** more than 8 million paid seats on the Q4 2025 call, for a product launched four months before that call.
- **Enterprise growth:** 40% quarter-over-quarter growth in paid monthly active users (Q1 2026) and nearly 90% of the Fortune 100 using it (Q2 2026).
- **Cloud:** revenue from products built on Google's gen AI models grew nearly 800% year over year in Q1 2026, a growth rate with no dollar figure.

Because Gemini Enterprise launched four months before the February 4, 2026 call, no year-earlier seat base exists to compute growth from. Seat-growth claims that start there have no baseline.

If you need a Gemini revenue or subscriber figure, you won't find one from Google. What is public is seats, growth rates and line items.

## Gemini numbers that don't hold up

Six widely circulated Gemini figures fail one check, and each fails on unit, date, label or source.

Start with the unit rule. Alphabet states AI Overviews users in their own sentence (over 2.5 billion monthly active users at I/O 2026), so they are counted separately and never added to the app. The same holds for [Google AI Mode](https://missiongrowth.io/blog/google-ai-mode).

::dataset{key="gemini-circulating-vs-record" name="Circulating Gemini figures checked against primary sources, October 2026"}

| Circulating figure | What the record shows | Check it fails |
|---|---|---|
| "410 million monthly active users in Q1 2026" | Alphabet gave 750 million (Feb 4, 2026) and 900 million+ (May 19, 2026) | Contradicted |
| "750 million, mostly from AI Overviews" | AI Overviews users are stated in a separate sentence | Contradicted |
| "35-45 million daily over 750 million monthly, 5-6%" | A reported trial slide gave 35 million daily beside 350 million monthly in March 2025, about 10% | Mixes dates |
| "$1.2 billion Gemini subscription revenue" | The Q2 2026 release has no Gemini line | No primary source |
| "8.4 million Gemini for Workspace seats, growing year over year" and "14.6 million Gemini Advanced subscribers" | Neither appears in Alphabet's Q1 2026 release or CEO remarks | No primary source |
| "21.5% market share" | Similarweb's share of visits to chatbot websites in January 2026, about 21%; Statcounter showed 7.2% | Real figure, wrong label |

Two of these deserve a note. The seat claim, if it means Gemini Enterprise, runs into the launch timing above: that product launched about four months before the February 2026 call, so there is no year-earlier base for a year-over-year growth claim. And the 21.5% is a real Similarweb number. It only fails because "market share" suggests users.

## Which Gemini number should you cite?

Cite Alphabet's monthly active users for how many people use the Gemini app, the token figures for how much Gemini is used, Similarweb for share of chatbot website visits, and Pew for adoption by population.

Pick by claim. Which Gemini number fits depends on what your sentence says:

| Your question | Number to cite | Unit and limit | Copy-ready sentence |
|---|---|---|---|
| How many people use the Gemini app? | Alphabet's monthly active users | Floors ("over", "surpassed"); app only | "Google said the Gemini app had 950 million monthly active users on its July 22, 2026 earnings call." |
| How much is Gemini used? | Token volume | API rate vs all-surface monthly total | "Google's model APIs were processing approximately 22 billion tokens per minute on its July 22, 2026 call." |
| How much chatbot website attention? | Similarweb share of visits | Web visits only; no API or embedded use | "Similarweb put Gemini at 27-28% of generative AI website visits in May 2026." |
| How many people have tried it? | Pew "ever use" | Survey, US only; not active use | "Pew found 24% of US adults had ever used Gemini in its February 2026 survey." |

Four rules keep the copy-ready sentence honest:

1. Never add AI Overviews or AI Mode users to the app figure.
2. Always carry the date of the disclosure.
3. Treat "over" and "more than" as floors.
4. Quote Statcounter and Similarweb with the metric name.

If you're turning these numbers into a plan, the [Gemini SEO](https://missiongrowth.io/blog/gemini-seo) guide covers what to do with the app and Search surfaces. To see how Gemini mentions your own brand, use a [Gemini visibility tracker](https://missiongrowth.io/blog/gemini-visibility-tracking).

The right Gemini number is the one whose unit matches your claim. Pick the row above that matches your sentence, copy its wording with the date, and for ranking-impact studies see our [AI SEO statistics](https://missiongrowth.io/blog/ai-seo-statistics).

### How these Gemini numbers were checked

Numbers here are as of October 1, 2026. They come from Alphabet's CEO remarks for its 2025 and 2026 earnings calls, its Q2 2026 earnings release, the Google I/O 2026 keynote text and Google's August 11, 2026 post.

Market data comes from Statcounter's chart data and FAQ and Similarweb's 2026 generative AI report. Adoption comes from both Pew surveys, and the March 2025 point from TechCrunch's April 2025 report of the antitrust-trial figures. "Over" and "more than" are floors, derived numbers show their formulas, and the page contains no first-party measurements.

## FAQ

### Can you add AI Overviews users to Gemini app users?

No. Alphabet states AI Overviews users in a separate sentence, and they are a different product with a different unit. Adding them to the Gemini app's monthly active users double counts people who never opened the app. Keep the app figure alone and cite AI Overviews with its own source.

### Why do Statcounter and Similarweb give different Gemini market share numbers?

They count different things. Similarweb measures share of visits to generative AI websites in its worldwide panel, excluding API and embedded use. Statcounter's AI chatbot series has no documented method of its own. In May 2026 the two were 3.8 to 4.0 times apart, both rising.

### Does Google report Gemini revenue?

No. Alphabet's Q2 2026 release has no Gemini line. Revenue sits in Search & other, YouTube ads, Network, subscriptions, platforms, and devices, and Cloud, and Gemini is not named in them. Seats, subscription counts and growth rates are public, but a Gemini dollar figure is an outside estimate.

### What percentage of teens use Gemini?

23% of US teens aged 13 to 17 say they ever use Gemini, per Pew's survey published December 9, 2025. Because 64% of teens ever use any chatbot, that is about 36% of teen chatbot users (23 / 64). It measures ever use, so it says nothing about monthly activity.

### Is Gemini struggling right now?

No. Monthly active users rose about 2.1 times in a year and daily active users tripled. Monthly net adds moved between about 24 and 62 million across four windows with no consistent direction, and the last window sits inside the rounding range of the one before it.

### Does Gemini or ChatGPT have more users?

The two companies don't report the same unit, so compare them only after converting both to one. Google reports monthly active users for the Gemini app, and other chatbot figures count weekly or visit-based activity. The ChatGPT statistics page carries the comparison, so this page prints no side-by-side table.
