Overview

Thirty cities, eight languages, one organic sales engine

MegaPass runs a multilingual store for sightseeing passes and museum entry across 30+ cities, on in-house software. Its rankings climbed through 2025, then fell back after Google’s March 2026 updates. Our audit traced where value was leaking: temporary redirects, a www host that returned 404 and sitemaps full of dead URLs. AI crawlers were being refused too. We closed those leaks first, rebuilt the pages that sell and wrote for the questions travellers put to AI assistants. In the six months that followed, revenue from organic search rose 117% and page-one keywords set a new record.

What we did

What we changed, end to end

    • Temporary 302 redirects on locale-less city URLs switched to permanent 301s
    • The www host redirected to the main domain so old backlinks pass equity again
    • Sitemaps regenerated to list only live, indexable URLs
    • Stale products and soft-404 redirects removed from the catalogue
    • x-default added to the 8-language hreflang set

Success factors

What made this work

  • 01A full audit before any fix, so the biggest leaks went first
  • 02Small, fast technical changes with outsized impact
  • 03Product pages written for buyers, then structured for search
  • 04Treating AI answer engines as a sales channel, not a side project
  • 05Measuring outcomes in sales, not sessions

Conclusion

Closing the leaks before adding anything new, then writing for Google and AI assistants alike, lifted organic revenue 117% and turned organic search into a steady source of about 40 orders a month.
